In his latest book Icons of Muscle Shoals Kevin Tomlin tells the story of some of the many people who made a major contribution to the development of American Soul and R&B music in Muscle Shoals. The Shoals area is tucked away in Northern Alabama; just a few small towns, but they produced some of the best popular music of the 60s and 70s. At the heart of the story is Rick Hall, a man from a poor White family, who made his dreams come true. In doing so, he brought to life the dreams of many Black singers at his FAME Studio.
